It was a cricket lover’s and Bollywood lover’s delight over the weekend as the Celebrity Cricket League kicked off at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The first match was between Mumbai Heroes and Chennai Rhinos. Since the former team has Jai Ho director Sohail Khan as a co-owner, it was only natural for him to promote the film on the pitch along with his superstar brother Salman Khan and the film’s lead actress, Daisy Shah.
Even though Chennai Heroes won the match, the Mumbai Heroes put up a good fight. Actor Aftab Shivdsasani hit a couple of fours and sixes (and was loudly cheered on by his girlfriend, Nin Dusanj) while Bobby Deol put in an impressive performance as a bowler. Cheering and supporting Bobby were his wife Tanya and son Dharam.
During the break, the title song of Jai Ho was played in the stadium and Daisy Shah did a little jig for her fans. The pretty actress also chose to show off her batting skills on the pitch, for the benefit of the assembled media.
Later in the evening, Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh‘s Veer Marathi team played against the Bhojpuri Dabbangs. The duo entered the pitch to the strains of traditional Maharashtrian lejim music.
However, the highlight of the evening was a performance by Yo Yo Honey Singh, in between the matches. He performed Party Yun Hi Chalegi and was joined on stage by Huma Qureshi, Daisy and Salman. Then, in what can only be considered as politically incorrect, Singh performed Lungi Dance from Shah Rukh Khan‘s hit film, Chennai Express.
And while everyone thought that Salman Khan might walk off in a huff, he actually danced along to this song too.
