He’s forty-nine years old and still gives a number of younger stars a run for their money with his lean and lithe frame. In 2007, Shah Rukh Khan flaunted his six-pack abs in Om Shanti Om and then followed it up with an encore in Ra.One in 2011.
That’s reason enough for fitness trainer Deanne Pandey to have the Badshah of Bollywood launch her latest tome, Shut Up And Train, in Mumbai, yesterday.
When asked by the media if he envied the muscular physiques of many of his Bollywood colleagues like John Abraham, Shah Rukh said, “I don’t envy them. In fact, I appreciate them. Hrithik Roshan, John, now Ranbir Kapoor. I think Farhan Akhtar was also outstanding. These are all friends and they are all very very inspiring.”
From among the ladies in Bollywood, Shah Rukh named Lara Dutta Bhupati (who incidentally, was present at the launch and looked ravishing in a blue halter dress) and Bipasha Basu, as having the best maintained bodies.
On his birthday on November 2nd, when he was asked to reveal a few of the his secrets on keeping fit, Shah Rukh said, “In our Islamic culture, when you sit on the floor and eat, your stomach contracts by two-thirds, hence you don’t fill your stomach to full capacity when you eat. So whenever you eat, always leave a little space in your stomach. It’s better for digestion and is also a healthy practice. Also, avoid eating between meals. And finally, everyday, at least for half an hour, do something – anything – that will make you sweat!”
It is a known fact that Shah Rukh avoids eating bread, rice and fried foods. He prefers to feast on grilled chicken, turkey, lean meats, paneer, fish, legumes, vegetables, fruits and whole grains. He also drinks about three litres of water in a day to keep his system flushed.
But if you want abs like SRK, he suggests you only work on your abs for four days in a week and that too, every alternate day. It’s important to give your muscles time to recover, he asserts.
