A few days ago, Farooq Sheikh had a severe heart attack and passed away while in Dubai with his family. His body was brought back to Mumbai yesterday (Monday) morning, and was kept at his residence (Highland Park in Lokhandwala) so that family and colleagues could pay their respects. Celebrities like Farhan Akhtar, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Deepti Naval, Supriya Pathak, Anupam Kher, Sonali Bendre, Sudhir Mishra, Shekhar Suman, Divya Dutta, Rahul Bose, Satish Shah, Kabir Bedi and many more came to bid farewell to the veteran actor.
Take a look at some pictures:
Deepti Naval, who starred with him in many films, said: “Stars like him are born very rarely and the chance to be his co-star is rarer.”
At the funeral, she also told reporters that his friendship meant a lot to her and was lucky to have found a co-star like him.
Shabana Azmi, his Tumhari Amrita co-star, said: “It’s difficult for me to speak about Farooq in the past tense. It seems that it’s a grammatical error. Farooq, inspite of being a quiet person, could fill in the room with his humor and wit.”
Sonali Bendre said: “I was shocked when I heard the news. I cannot eat biryani without him… whenever I will eat biryani, I will always remember him. He was so gentle and so humble.”
Mr Sheikh was last seen in Club 60, and prior to that, he acted in Listen… Amaya and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, playing the role of Ranbir Kapoor‘s father. Earlier, in 2010, he also won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor in his 2009 film, Lahore.
He is survived by his wife, Roopa, and two daughters,
