Off late, the label, Burberry Prorsum has emerged to be one of the biggest game changers in the luxury market. Not only have they taken great strides in digital marketing but they have also promoted the freshest British talent by featuring them in their campaigns or by promoting new bands under the section, Burberry Acoustic. It’s no wonder then that electronics giant, Apple poached Burberry’s then C.E.O Angela Ahrendts to join their company.
For their latest spring/summer 2014 campaign, they’ve selected a handful of fresh faces such as Malaika Firth, Matilda Lowther, Callum Ball to wear their heritage trenches. (The brand IS known for creating this wardrobe staple). It also features actor Jamie Campbell Bower who has starred in mega-hits, Twilight and Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows – Part 1 and aristocrat Lady Jean Campbell.
Says Christopher Bailey, Burberry Chief Creative Officer, “There’s a distinctly English mood to this season – a gentle, effortless, romantic quality, brought to life by a cast of bright young British talent.”
But what caught our eye was the casting of the first ever Indian origin model, Neelam Johal in the campaign.
Here’s what you need to know about Neelam:
The young, British Indian model is all of 18 years and made her ramp debut with their spring/summer 2014 show. Born and raised in Coventry, she was discovered by a scout and is currently pursuing a degree in psychology. A self-confessed rap fan, her current favourite albums are Kanye West’s Yeezus, Drake’s Nothing Was the Same and Jay Z’s Magna Carter Holy Grail. Johal is not a fan of films and prefers watching reality TV shows, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Real Housewives of Atlanta and The Great British Bake-Off. She’s also a fan of Afghani writer, Khaled Hosseini.
