It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! There’s a slight nip in the air, you can almost smell the egg nog and poinsettia plants are starting to dot the landscape. While the Christmas tree might not be up just yet, we’ve rounded up 10 of our favourite Christmas movies that will put you in the Christmas spirit. While compiling this list, Team MissMalini’s Mike Melli immediately sent me a looong list of his favourite movies. Someone sure does take them seriously! 🙂 Check out my top 10 list in no particular order.
1) Love Actually
With an impressive roster of stars, it focuses on 8 different couples in Britain and how they deal with love in THE holiday month of December.
2) Scrooged
Bill Murray plays a self-centred TV executive who gets a visit from three spirits on Christmas eve, each bearing gifts that have a certain meaning.
3) Home Alone
A personal favourite of mine, I feel that my Christmas is incomplete without watching it. It spawned 4 sequels but the original still amuses me to no end.
4) Bad Santa
You picture Santa as this lovable, chubby man with a white beard. That will change when you watch Bad Santa. Billy Bob Thornton plays a bank robber who dresses up as Santa with his side-kick, or rather Elf, played by Bernie Mac.
5) Jingle All the Way
We all think of Arnold Schwarzenegger as a hard core action man but we were in for a treat when he played the light-hearted character of a father trying to lay his hands on the most awaited toy for his child on Christmas and the travails that go along with it.
6) The Santa Clause
What happens when you accidentally knock down Santa? Why, you take his place! This is one movie the kids will also love to watch.
7) National Lampoon’s Christmas Holiday
If you love the National Lampoon series, the holiday edition is a must-watch during Christmas as it promises to tickle your funny bone.
8) Miracle on 34th Street
An oldie but a goodie!
9) How the Grinch Stole Christmas
We’ve all grown up reading Dr Seuss’ books and Jim Carrey playing the Grinch is just perfection.
10) Die Hard
All the boys will probably agree with me on this one, who said Christmas is all about being sappy? This action flick stars a macho Bruce Willis fighting against a group of terrorists led by the seriously scary Alan Rickman (that’s Professor Snape to you).
Honourable mentions:
Reindeer Games
- Trading Places
- Rocky IV
- Lethal Weapon
- Gremlins
