His Royal Highness Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall are currently in India on a tour of the country. Taking time out of their duties, they decided to get some much needed R&R at the Ananda Spa at the Himalayas. The property has some connection and history to the Royals.
The Viceregal Palace was added to the main palace of the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal in Narendranagar palace in 1910–11 by the Maharaja for an expected visit of the Viceroy of India. Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India and first Governor-General of the independent Dominion of India (1947–48), has also stayed in the Viceregal Palace. So it is only fitting that his grand nephew, Prince Charles, returns to this very location after more than 60 years.
Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla are in Uttarakhand to visit three world renowned institutions in Dehradun tomorrow – The Indian Military Academy, the Forest Research Institute and the Doon School, where local women are being helped to finance their own self-employment projects.
