A line-up of luscious ladies, wearing the barest of bikinis, set the temperatures soaring in Mumbai last evening as they fiercely competed for the title of Miss Maxim 2014.
Organised by Maxim magazine, these twelve beauties put their best foot forward on the ramp to impress celebrity judges like Nishka Lulla, Priyanka Bose, Bunty Walia, Prachi Desai, Subi Samuel and Rocky S.
The dramatic show was choreographed by the bubbly Nisha Harale. This former Miss Mumbai title holder, exclusively tells us what it takes to be a winner at a beauty pageant.
Team MissMalini: What do you primarily need to win a beauty pageant?
Nisha Harale: The most important thing is to have a vision… a vision that you want to be there as the winner. Then, you need to work hard towards that goal. When I started my career, I had no godfather to help me. My vision was to be a model and so I watched fashion videos, I practiced ramp walking at home, I learnt about beauty and hair care. And then, I took part in the Miss Mumbai contest where I was groomed by Achla Sachdev, a person who has taught me everything I know, today.
You also need to be updated on fashion trends and trendy brands. Last but not the least, to be a winner, personal hygiene is a must. Getting rid of unslightly hair, taking good care of your skin and hair and having a proper exercise regime are all very important too.
Team MM: What did you do to train and groom the girls for this contest?
NH: Frankly, I had only four hours to get the best out of them. Almost 80% of them had never set foot on a ramp before or had never faced a camera. So, in just four hours, I taught them how to walk, how to pose, helped them to do their own introductions to the judges, helped them with their diction, gave them make-up tips and advised them on their dress sense and how to carry off the garments on the ramp.
Team MM: With so much of competition to win the title and prizes, how do the newcomers handle the pressure?
NH: Frankly, I’m against bitching and back-biting among contestants. At the start of the training session, I tell the participants that competition must be kept healthy. In the long run, there is enough work out there for everybody. I tell them to focus on making friends and to help each other as a team.
