What is even the point of a Koffee With Karan season that is lacking in controversy? In a recent interview, Karan Johar said that this time around, he’s not “trying to be controversial.” According to the show’s host, on this season, he expects people to be a lot more guarded with what they say during their appearance, considering the drama that happened during the last season. (You remember: Rishi Kapoor wasn’t at all pleased with the Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone episode, and even claimed that Karan instigated them to pass all those comments on Ranbir Kapoor.) Perhaps to avoid such a situation again, Karan has put some work into formatting the show so that the celebrities “answer the questions comfortably” without being “forced to reveal anything that could cause a stir.” But we kinda want that stir, KJo!
Wondering what this season will be like, then? Karan said that the vibe this time is supposed to be “fun” – he just wants his guests to come on the show and have a great time sipping cups of coffee. And if you’re looking for controversy, you’ll probably have to make the inferences yourself. This is what Karan had to say:
“The whole idea with Koffee With Karan is to read between the lines. Sometimes the things they don’t say but say it with their expression is what we have to find out.”
What can I say? We’re always willing to read between the lines. Bring it on!
Psst here’s who you can expect on the upcoming shows – Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, as we told you already:
Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra, Karan’s favourite students:
Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, which should please all the fans of the Kapoor khandaan:
Ranveer Singh (sporting his new look) and Arjun Kapoor, the two Gunday boys:
There will be more, of course – Shah Rukh Khan has to make an appearance – and we can’t wait to know the whole list!
