In 2010, after quite some time of trying, Ranveer Singh landed his first role as an actor with the YRF film, Band Baaja Baaraat. It proved to be a breakthrough film for him, with several people – audiences and critics alike – lauding him for his performance. He received the Filmfare award for Best Male Debut, and since then, has carved a space for himself within the industry. Even though he’s only a few films old, he’s already considered amongst one of the most promising within the industry.

Link-Ups:
Anushka Sharma: The two first met on the sets of Band Baaja Baaraat, and since then, tongues have been wagging about them being in a relationship. Both of them, however, have maintained that this is not true – Anushka even said on an episode of Koffee With Karan that she can’t stand Ranveer, and actually hates him a little more than she likes him. On the same episode, she said that she doesn’t think he would make a very good boyfriend, and so she can’t date him. That still didn’t kill the rumours, though, and there were often reports of the two in the media – such as them being spotted kissing at a party and watching movies together. Eventually, though, word began spreading that the pair had broken up. Whether or not they were actually dating, it does seem that now Ranveer and Anushka have drifted apart, even as friends. As for why they were constantly linked with each other, this is the explanation that Ranveer gave: “We are two young, attractive people. When people saw us going out and sharing wonderful chemistry, they speculated. The truth is Anushka is a very good friend. We have drifted apart now unfortunately.”
Sonakshi Sinha: Rumours began spreading at one point that Sonakshi and Ranveer were seeing each other, and there were even reports that the two were spotted hand-in-hand in Bandra. Apparently, they got close to each other when they performed together at an awards function, and had grown more fond of each other as the days went by. Once again, though, the two of them denied this in the media. Ranveer, when asked, only said that they were acquainted through “professional interactions” and “brief meetings at formal events,” but weren’t dating each other. He did acknowledge that she was a “warm and friendly” person, and even said in the same Koffee With Karan episode that he would like to do a film with her next (this was pre-Lootera). Interestingly, at that time, Karan mentioned to him that Sonakshi says the one thing Anushka has that she doesn’t have is Ranveer. Anushka quipped that Sonakhsi could have him.
Deepika Padukone: Not long after being signed on for Ram-Leela, rumour had it that Ranveer and Deepika were seeing each other. Yet again, the two have denied this, although they have been spotted out together very often – Deepika even visited Ranveer in the hospital when he fell ill with dengue. Their sizzling chemistry in the Ram-Leela promos added even more fuel to the fire, and it didn’t help that Ranveer gave interviews talking about how he couldn’t take his eyes of her. There were suspicions, though, that this whole deal was only for the sake of publicity. See also: The Cutest Pictures Ever of Ranveer & Deepika!
Juicy offscreen quotes:
“I miss [Anushka] tremendously. She is full of love. Too many people have misunderstood her. Too many people just don’t get where she is coming from and the kind of person that she is. She is one of the purest and honest people I have ever met. I get angry when I read negative articles about her. It infuriates me more than my own negative articles.”
“I was a very filmy kid. I used to watch a lot of TV and get very influenced by Bollywood.”
“My ambition was always to bag a lead role in a film and hence I refrained from doing any ads, TV serials, music videos as I felt that a fresh face always works much better. It was a gamble and I took that gamble telling myself that I will give it my all to bag a lead role.”
“I want to be super successful by 35, be based out of Goa, have a few vintage vehicles in the garage, a few kids playing on the lawn… I could see myself retire by 35. Or maybe do one movie a year. But I need to be the king of my castle before I get there.”
“When it comes to script sense, I have none. I tend to go by instinct; I’m actually drawn to directors whose work I’ve seen before.”
“I knew [Deepika] will be easy to work with, but you can’t get your eyes off the screen when you are looking at her. I love what I see. I only watch Deepika when I see the monitor.”
