“I Was A No Strings Attached Prostitute” – Guthi Reveals All

Guthi

You’ve already heard that Sunil Grover, also known as Guthi from the popular Comedy Nights With Kapil, has walked out of the show. What followed was a huge amount of drama – the media house issued a public notice saying that they have sole ownership of the character Guthi, and no other channel could use it. Sunil, on the other hand, claims that he was playing this character long before Comedy Nights first aired, and was in fact hired to play several other characters on CNWK – but the producers decided one day that they’d like him to play Guthi. In a recent interview, Sunil Grover opened up about why exactly he quit the show, and how he’s planning on continuing using Guthi.

Sunil Grover told Mirror:

My contract was getting over and that’s why I started negotiations with the channel and what followed left a bad taste because I was simply asking for I hike I deserved. Initially it was a straight ‘No’, later they told me to ‘work on freelance basis’ and finally agreed to my terms. This process went on for a month during which they introduced new characters that they hoped would be as popular. Unfortunately, they did not succeed and I had had enough. But now they don’t want me to take the character to another show. If your wife leaves you, don’t you have the right to remarry? But I wasn’t a wife, only a ‘no strings attached prostitute’ who was given a stipulated time to carry out a job.

He also claims that he used the character Guthi in Comedy Circus before, and while he would’ve otherwise considered not playing the character again out of respect for CNWK, he doesn’t like to be forcibly stopped. Now, he’d like to retain the rights to the name, and also cash in on any offers he’s getting since “it’s the best phase of his career.”

What do you think? Would you like to see Guthi played by another character on Comedy Nights, or would you prefer Sunil Grover playing it on another show?
