When people think of the Kareena Kapoor/Imran Khan pairing, they generally tend to comment on their different standings in the industry. Kareena is, of course, amongst the top names in the industry today, while Imran is one of those being touted as the next big thing. On The Front Row this week, Anupama Chopra asks Kareena what advice she gave Imran Khan to make it to the top. Here’s an excerpt from the conversation between the three.
Anupama: Imran you are seen as a contender for A-list stardom. Kareena, you’ve already spent many years there, notched up the blockbusters, the endorsements, the magazine covers. What advice would you give him? What’s essential to achieve and maintain this position?
Imran: I know her advice. ‘Stop taking everything so damn seriously.’
Kareena: Yes. But I think he’s stopped doing that. He’s a different person from Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu.
Anupama: Really? How?
Kareena: I think he’s a lot more open and I had a blast working with him. I truly, genuinely am very fond of working with Imran and I think he is one of the most promising actors because he has the talent, he has the dedication. He’s earnest, he has drop-dead gorgeous looks. I mean, what more do you need to have to be a Bollywood top star!
Imran: The light’s good here! (Kareena and Anupama laugh)
Kareena: I mean he has everything going.
Imran: She has said this to me a dozen times. ‘Stop taking everything so seriously. Calm down. Have a little fun.’
Kareena: Yes. Just have fun. Why is it that we take everything so seriously?
Imran: She makes it look easy.
Kareena: Why is it that everything has to be dissected? ‘This film has not worked’ and ‘She has given three flops.’ Why? Why can’t we just be and work in movies and just watch them? If you like it, you like it. If you don’t like it, try again.
Imran: She should be the poster child for taking it easy and making it look easy.
Anupama: So are you learning from Kareena, Imran?
Imran: Little bit. It’s hard to get that ‘Khan’ problem out of me. (laughs) It is a family problem. My mom, Mansoor. Everyone is like this.
