This autumn/winter 2013, we’re going mad for plaid. The lumberjack staple has turned high fashion this season with Celine, Jill Sander, Alberta Ferretti and closer home, Pero by Aneeth Arora using copious amounts of it. The pattern traces its origins to Scotland. In fact, in the 17th Century, wearing plaid was considered an act of rebellion! Can you imagine that? So how do you take this casual statement and make it look polished?
1) Team with a Biker Jacket
I love how Jessica Alba made a seemingly prim plaid skirt edgy by pairing it with a biker jacket and black t-shirt.
2) Strike a balance
If opting for a loose shirt, make sure you strike a balance and pick skinny jeans and streamlined footwear. Reese Witherspoon makes it work, by carrying a chic neutral tote.
3) Tuck it In
Tucking in your plaid top will instantly make you look more put together.
