Asking the fashion fraternity to attend a morning event during fashion week is hard. With fashion shows finishing late at night and then the countless after-parties, going anywhere before noon is not welcomed.
But when Abraham and Thakore and Ekaya hosted an “elevenses” to announce their collaboration, it was a full house. For a while now, the woven sari has enjoyed a comeback thanks to textile based brands like Ekaya and Raw Mango, and fashion designers like Abraham and Thakore and Rahul Mishra.
So, when the two team up, you look forward to seeing the final product. For six months, Ekaya’s weavers in Benares have been busy turning Abraham and Thakore designs into a reality. It is literally all about weaves, as the duo has even used a basket weave motif in their saris.
Borders, motifs and colours are contemporary, giving the timeless woven sari a more au courant feel. This focus back to the sari is something the industry is embracing. Admiring the weaves were NDTV’s Ambika Anand, Verve’s Nisha Jhangiani, ELLE’s Archana Pillai as well as Playcan’s Himashu Dogra and Moonriver’s Radhika Gupta. Now let’s see how many of these taste-makers opt to wear one of these weaves at fashion week?
