If cartoon characters were real, everybody would love to have the bouncy and friendly Pluto as their very own pet. And today, the much loved Walt Disney character, which was created in 1930, turns eighty three years old. But even if you multiply that by seven dog years, Pluto is still ageless and has no signs of retiring any time soon.
I had the good fortune of meeting Pluto over breakfast when Team MissMalini was invited to Hong Kong Disneyland recently. Pluto ambled up to our table and happily posed for pictures with everybody.
Pluto has appeared in twenty-four Mickey Mouse films, and in 1937 was granted his own cartoon series because of his growing popularity. Few people know this, but he was originally called Rover, and appeared as Minnie Mouse‘s pet dog in the film The Picnic (1930). It was only a year later that his name was changed to Pluto The Pup and he was seen on screen, accompanying Mickey Mouse on a hunt.
Here’s wishing Pluto a very happy 83rd birthday from all of us at Team MissMalini.
