The Pin Approach
Safety pins will carry you through most fashion calamities. Always carry a packet of safety pins in silver, black and gold and of all sizes so that for any fabric, thick or thin, you have the right pin to address the problem. If a strap is loose then it’s probably because the eye of the hook is broken, so create one with the pin so that you hook the strap onto the pin. If there’s a tear in the middle of a fabric then pinch the fabric from the inside and pin it. On the outside it should look like a dart. This way it doesn’t come off as an obvious mistake being corrected.
Super Slips
Designers love to create pieces with heavy embroidery on very delicate laces, mesh fabrics and/or georgettes. Make sure you always wear a slim crêpe or satin slip underneath such garments so that should a tear occur, you will be well protected from any disastrous wardrobe malfunction. Slips are now available in a variety of colours, fabrics and lengths so finding the best one suited to your exact outfit is extremely easy.
The Extra Change
It’s important to always have a back up outfit just in case you just cannot fix an issue with your original choice of ensemble. To prevent being stuck at the last minute without any options, carry a complete extra change of clothes including inner wear, shoes, bag and matching accessories. This is especially a must-do for when travelling for important functions and you don’t have access to your usual wardrobe for backups.
Water to the rescue
If you spill something rush immediately to the washroom and wash it initially with nothing but water. Soap may leave another temporary stain or increase the stain to unmanageable proportions. Ideally don’t let any stain lie on your garment for too long and have it sent to the laundry at the earliest.
Tape it up!
To prevent embarrassing flashes always use double-sided tape for plunging necklines. Combine that with nipple tape for all kinds of fabrics, not just flimsy ones. It’s a safe and easy way to breeze through any occasion without having to worry about what you’re wearing.
