You always know with Manish Malhotra it is going to about feminine glamour. The finale designer for PCJ Delhi Couture Week, Manish, showed a new restraint. His cleanest and chicest show to date, it was deliciously decadent, yet elegant.
Set in what looked a drawing room that belonged to a maharajah who had a penchant for French opulence. There was a victorian feel to everything be it the deep necklines, corset-ing or use of lace.
Velvet was favoured and this along with regal colours such as navy blue and burgundy gave the collection a vintage feel. Zardosi Christian Louboutin shoes ensured a royal look from top to toe. For men he opted for metal toe brogues in white.
The pared down anarkalis was a silhouette that Manish made his own. For men it was all about the short Sherwani. His embroidery’s were impeccable as was his finish. Baroque looking zardosi and elegant Kashmiri thread work turned his clothes into pieces you would want to collect. Hopefully they will be available in his new flagship store opening in Delhi this week.
While the broad borders and horizontal colour blocking looked fabulous on models it may dwarf a normal girl. Though this is a style Manish’s loves, it is not something I would advise for brides-to-be.
Closing the show was Deepika Padukone, who looked resplendent. Accompanying her was her Chennai Express co star Shah Rukh Khan.
A fitting glamorous close for this, one of Manish’s strongest collections to date.
