She’s been at the forefront of the gay rights movement in India and is very vocal about sexual equality. In fact, not one to just sit and shoot her mouth off, actress Celina Jaitly actually participates in gay rights marches whenever she is in India.
Now, according to a news release sent out by the United Nations Human Rights Office, “A number of celebrities with a commitment to equality have pledged their support for Free & Equal – an unprecedented global public education campaign for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality – by becoming UN Equality Champions and helping to spread campaign messages and materials via social media. These include the pop star Ricky Martin, South African singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly, and Brazilian singer Daniela Mercury.”
Says Celina, “The Free & Equal campaign is an unprecedented United Nations global public education campaign for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality and I’m very happy to be a part of it. I have a large number of friends and fans from the LGBT community and I would love to see them treated fairly and equally in India and also in other countries around the world where they are discriminated against and there are no proper laws to safe-guard their interests.”
