Congratulations are in order for the young royals! Prince William and Kate Middleton are proud parents of a baby boy and the future king of England!
The birth was announced via a formal press release issued by Kensington Palace as follows:
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4:24 p.m. The baby weighs 8lbs 6oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.”
Kate and the baby are both doing well, the palace said, and will remain in the hospital overnight.
The baby was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in London at the Lindo wing. Incidentally, it was the same place where the baby’s father and uncle, Princes William and Harry were born.
Royal tradition has it that, the baby’s weight, sex and time of birth were sent from the hospital via car to Buckingham Palace where a gold and wood easel was propped outside the gates announcing the tot’s arrival.
FYI, the world may have to wait considerably longer to learn the baby’s name, the royal family will reveal it in an official statement in the coming hours or days. Harry’s name was made public on the day he was born. It took about a week for the palace to reveal William’s name, and nearly a month before their father’s name was uttered outside the palace walls! Any guesses?
Congratulations to the young couple from Team MissMalini too!
