Tarun Tahilani as we mentioned before is the grand finale designer for India Bridal Fashion Week. This time around we sat him down for an exclusive tête-à-tête about his crystal encrusted collection.
Team MissMalini: What are the biggest bridal trends this season?
Tarun Tahiliani: Bridal wear is all about personal choice.
TeamMM: What colours/silhouettes should the mother of the bride wear?
TT: Whatever suits her personality.
TeamMM: One rule brides should follow on their wedding?
TT: Be natural.
TeamMM: The most memorable bride you have dressed?
TT: There are too many to mention. Each with their own spunk.
TeamMM: Tell us a little about your collection for the Indian Bridal Fashion Week?
TT: Only special pieces will be displayed. We have three new styles to look out for. A pastoral romance of pinks, ivory, restrained beiges and bridal red from the Enchanted Forest collection. The liquid gold draped jersey dresses as the one worn by Karlie Kloss at Cannes. The tulle anarkalis with hems in hundreds of metres in hues that are light and frothy. The piece-des-resistance is threadwork and Swarovski Elements in lehengas the softest shades of aquas and teals.
TeamMM: A typical day in your life consists of?
TT: Alarms, deadlines, stimulation, inspiration, lots of laughs, meditation and great beauty.
TeamMM: What can you not live without?
TT: For principle I can live without anything, but at the moment I am attached to everything.
TeamMM: How do you balance your creative vision with what the bride wants?
TT: By staying true to what I like and by having beautiful and evocative shoots and imagery.
TeamMM: What are the biggest challenges designing bridal wear?
TT: Keeping things fresh and light.
TeamMM: How do you unwind after a long day at work?
TT: Read, watch talks or other interesting documentaries, hang out at home with people who I love being with. Be still!
