They dont fascinate me. I treat them as those necessary evils which I have to face like a pathologists examine the samples of urine, blood and stool. He is not fascinated by them. and I have not risked my life. I am a firm believer and I know thse gangsters cannot kill me unless my God consents.
Movies tend to give them larger than life image and exaggerate their stories to make it look good for the masses, win sympathy for the protagonist and make their movies work so its an inaccurate portrayal.
No intention to glorify them, the idea was to chronicle the history of Mumbai gangland. As a journalist I faced lot of handicaps when I did not have a resource material while doing the reporting hence I decided to write this book. If you read through this you will see I have not condoned or appreciated any gangsters’ act anywhere in the book. For me mafia is a cancer which spreads because of cops and politicians.
