Yup, it’s happening: we’ve remade English films aplenty, but now one of our Hindi classics is about to get its English counterpart! British-Indian director Atul Malhotra is a huge fan of the original film, and has therefore decided to give it his own take. What’s the title of the remake going to be, you ask?
Amar, Akbar & Tony! Clever, yes? The original version was about Christian, Muslim and Hindi childhood friends, but this one will feature a Sikh instead of a Hindu. British actors Rez Kempton, Martin Delaney and Sam Vincenti will play the roles Amitabh, Vinod and Rishi acted, while Goldy Notay, Laura Aikman and Karen David will fill the roles of Parveen, Neetu and Shabana. On her part, Shabana Azmi is pretty excited that they’re doing this film, saying that now the time has come for them to remake our films.
I think this is going to be an interesting one to watch out for! What about you?
