Karan Johar, who recently did a round of promotions for Bombay Talkies, claims that the Hindi film industry has become more “disciplined” and “organized” over the years – which is good – but at the same time, the “love and compassion” that kept people together has disappeared. Ah well… kabhi khushi kabhi gham, right KJo?
Karan told TOI:
“I hear stories of the yesteryears magic. One misses the love and compassion that film people had for each other even when they were making different films. As an industry, we have stopped belonging to each other.”
He does say, though, that he felt some of that belonging while working on Bombay Talkies with Zoya, Dibakar and Anurag, as there was a synergy between the four of them. That’s probably required for a film that’s a collection of four short stories, rather than one stand-alone one – so here’s to hoping that it translates on screen. Considering that it’s being directed by four people who are excellent in their own fields, we’re not worried.
Psst, did you know that Bombay Talkies is being produced by the 28-year-old Ashi Dua, who’s one of the youngest producers around? She brought these four directors on-board, got the budget sorted with Viacom18, and managed to organize a special gala screening of the film at Cannes, where her directors will have a red carpet entry. You go, girl!
