Emraan Hashmi‘s latest release, Ek Thi Daayan, is getting some unusual flak. In a letter to none other than President Pranab Mukherjee, FLAC (Free Legal Aid Committtee), described as an NGO dedicated to spreading awareness against the superstition of witches, has demanded the film be banned. In a separate statement to the media, Prem Chand of FLAC declared movies and television shows such as Ek Thi Daayan “only glorify the culprits engaged in inflicting mental and physical torture on innocent women on the pretext of being a witch.”
Curiosly, Premji (as he is known) singled out 14 states as being vulnerable to this problem, including Bihar, Bengal, Odisha, Chattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. We’re not sure what that means for us here in Maharashtra, but no word yet on whether President Mukherjee has taken a position on the issue.
