Actor / singer / director and now social activist, Farhan Akhtar, has tied up with the India Premiere League in a big way to spread awareness about gender inequality and rape through MARD, which stands for Men Against Rape and Discrimination.
On the 26th of April, Farhan Akhtar will be distributing 70,000 mustaches in one of the biggest matches between Shah Rukh Khan’s team Kolkata Knight Riders and Preity Zinta’s Kings IX Punjab at Eden Gardens. Everyone in the stadium would be sporting a mustache in support of MARD.
This would be first time where the MARD campaign will promoted on such a huge scale at a public venue. “The awareness can only spread as a pyramid effect through the support of you, the public,” says Farhan.
Farhan Akhtar conceived MARD after an incident in August 2012 wherein Pallavi Purkayastha, a Mumbai lawyer was sexually assaulted and then killed by her home watchman. Akhtar launched his campaign in March 2013 where he performed at a college concert in Bangalore wearing a t-shirt with MARD’s logo.
Will you wear a mustache at the match, for MARD?
