Last night there was a lot of love in the room for Farah Khan Ali as she launched her dream Flagship Store on Turner Road, Bandra and celebrated two decades of her signature jewellery label. I love that her whole family showed up to support, including mom and pop Zarine & Sanjay Khan, sister and brother-in-law Sussanne & Hrithik Roshan, little bro and sis-in-law Zayed & Malaika Khan and hubby Aqeel Ali. In fact they were all smiles and happy energy as she darted around bright-eyed posing gracefully for photo opps half the time and chasing her son Azaan around for the other half! Now THAT’s how it’s done, keeping it real and making it work. More power to you girl. 🙂

Psst, I was there and I got video. Plus the birds eye view of fashion, Bollywood and more so read on. Oh and deffy watch the video cos I feel like the other Farah Khan was giving Hrithik and Sussanne some major gossip about a common friend based purely on her animated expressions! xoxo

Farah Khan Fine Jewellery which she set up back in 1993 now has a new address! The store itself is very art deco and spread over two floors. Alice in Wonderland, she revealed in our Twinterview yesterday was her inspiration 🙂

Farah Khan Ali “Alice in Wonderland is about making impossible possible. It is about a magical world where curiosity makes it so much more wondrous. I believe that anything is possible and just like Alice, I day dream, except I make those dreams come true! Maybe its my background of Bollywood that helps me to see things in a magical perspective and allows me the freedom to let my mind run creatively amuck in different directions for I come from a world of make belief, that anything is possible if you truly believe in it.”

Take a look at who else showed up: Aditya Thackeray, Tanya Dubash, Sushmita Sen, Genelia Dsouza, Kiran Sippy,  Sharmilla Khanna, Prerna Goel, Mehr Rampal, Bhavna Pandey, Laila Lamba, Tanaaz Doshi, Anu dawn, Zeba Kohli, Ana Singh, Sheeba, Rouble Nagi, Pinky Reddy, Amit Sadh, Sameer Dattani, Gayatri Oberoi, Shrishti Arya, Sheetal Mafatlal, Nandita Mahtani, Dianne Pandey, Anjorie Alagh, Tara Sharma, Pinky Roshan, Vidya Malvade, Madhoo Shah, Manav Gangwani, Amrita Kilachand and Akansha Agarwal. Not to shabby for an early evening in busy Bandra!

In fact Sushmita Sen brought along her I Am She protégé Dipna Patel who quickly decided to shed her Miss Asia Pacific sash after she walked in! Very pretty girl, I just wish she hadn’t chosen a heavily padded dress…

Farah Khan (her namesake choreographer-turned-director) was hilarious and kept jokingly saying “I refuse to pose with you stick insects!”

And then this sweet young struggling actor (with light eyes I might add) was introduced to Hrithik and the conversation went a little something like this:

Struggling actor: Hello sir, I am a big fan.
Hrithik: Hey, how are you doing…
Struggling actor: I’m feeling nervous sir…
Hrithik: Don’t be nervous! You’re a good looking guy, you’ll do great!
Struggling actor: You are making me nervous sir.
*LOL* #Awesome.

Hrithik Roshan

Also Zayed Khan was really cute about going up to all the girls who work at the store and giving them a pep talk about how great everything looked and what a good job they were doing and then he posed for this picture with them…*Awww*

There’s this adorable old-timer photog, Farokh Jassawalla, who’s always at everything and he finally got his own picture taken with Sushmita Sen, so cute 🙂 he’s the one who calls my friend Andrea “10,000 Watts!” *LOL*

Obviously, me and my girlfriends spent most our time of admiring and critiquing everyone’s choice of fashion (and obviously drooling over Hrithik) in between takes! Here were the top three contenders of the evening AND 3 terrible terrible faux pas. (Get the FULL fashion debrief here.)

We laughed at…

I’m sorry, but this fuchsia monstrosity looks like something Barney (yes the dinosaur) barfed up. I don’t know what you were thinking lady but the fact that you spent the entire evening hiding your midriff with your handbag should be lesson enough. There are plenty of more flattering silhouettes for your body type (not to mention more slimming hues.) I certainly hope after this outing this one outfit is going belly up in your closet!

The problem with this dress wasn’t even the polka dots. I guess I shouldn’t be one to judge people for not dressing their age but I feel like this outfit exudes more Minnie Mouse than Madame Mafatlal. Also the hemline in the back was way shorter than the front and the shoes (while Christian Louboutin) are waaay to dominatrix for this looney tunes outfit!

Sheetal Mafatlal

I have never been a fan of nude bra straps, I don’t particularly think they look invisible or charming and if you wear them a size too snug (like the lady in green) you’ve got yourself some unsightly back cleavage. (btw, it was MUCH worse than this photo even conveys). This sighting in fact led to a whole conversation about frenemies and how real girlfriends would never let you leave the house like this (Barney, please note.)

We Loved…

Sushmita Sen in this gorgeous burst of color. Although we preferred the outfit belted and the bolder shoes. I wonder if she was just uncomfy or wanted to go more casual for the afterparty?

Sushmita Sen

Hands down the most striking ensemble. We loved the print on print, the soft fabric and the easy fit. Personally nix the stark whites and (when in doubt always) go for nude shoes and that would have made it a total winner for me, but at least you’re trying!

love this look

There was something uber graceful about this lady in a tribal print kaftan/maxi style dress. Also kudos to her for dressing age-appropriate especially since we saw soooo many older women in horrible fitted dresses with unsightly panty lines *eeks!* She carried herself so effortlessly and the print and flow of her dress beamed elegance, so the proverbial crown definitely goes to Saba Ali.

Special props to one member of the staff, Shivani Chaudhary I believe? A lovely girl in black high waisted wide leg trousers, a white blouse and red pumps. Props for adding that long necklace with a big pendant. So chic and well accessorised! Sadly I didn’t get a picture 🙁

Later on the party later moved to Aurus where the weather was divine and there was a photo booth! Enough said 🙂
