Sajid Khan has been having a tough time lately! His films have always been panned by the critics, but have still raked in the moolah at the box office, since they’ve been generally well-received by audiences. Unfortunately for him, though, it seems like Himmatwala will not have the same fate – the film has received exceptionally bad reviews and, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, has had a below-expectations opening and declining collections since. The director, who is famously arrogant, has claimed before that he cannot make a flop film – and while it’s perhaps still too early to give Himmatwala a “flop” tag, the low collections so far have been giving Sajid sleepless nights; so much so that we hear he’s considering a shift in genre entirely!
Sajid was heard remarking that maybe he should reconsider mass, commercial cinema since Himmatwala is not doing as well as he expected. Word has it that the director will soon be embarking on a break to “rethink” the kind of cinema he does, and is actually considering making an “artsy” film this time around. We hear that he’s planning on spending quite a lot of time chatting with Ram Gopal Varma, with whom he sort of began his career (Sajid directed the opening sequence of RGV’s Darna Zaroori Hai), and will perhaps take inspiration from the filmmaker for his future films.
On the condition of anonymity, a source close to the director told us: “Sajid has had the script of a horror/psychological thriller lying around for quite sometime, but he never did made it since he was focused on only one type of cinema. But now he’s thinking of resurrecting that script and doing something about it. Infact, he even said, ‘one review claimed Himmatwala was horrifying… now I’ll show them horrifying!’”
