Finally, a great day for menswear enthusiasts as day 3 offered a good dose of casual and street-cool fashion for men. Between Javed Khan‘s brilliant collection and the high energy at the Arjun Khanna show, there was a substantial dose of fashion and men!
After his debut with Gen Next, Javed Khan certainly did not disappoint. In fact he has offered a good note on what one should expect from his brand. In his Surreal collection, he used a lot of denim, but played with washes, dyes and patch work techniques. His summer collection offered an insane range of separates from the “full-moon” dyed tee to the paint splattered denim. A collection that talks of “the moon ruling the tides…”, and about our “need to rediscover our innate ebb and flow”. Honestly, if you thought the free humble soul of denim died with its current ‘uptown chic’ avatar, Javed Khan gives us back the basic thrill of denim and casual wear.
The day ended with a high energy and quite a rowdy session by Arjun Khanna. The show maintained a good pace and was high on visual impact. While Av and a couple of our male models did a splendid job, they were a few guys who completely butchered the sequence with their cheesy poses and wannabe ‘biker’ swagger!
Coming to the clothes, it’s great that we are now turning heads to street cool fashion on the runway. The underdogs and the rebels in the show were dressed in what was described as an “industrial meets retro” look. A few of the silhouettes seemed box-like, but that’s not a bad thing because street inspirations are all about being raw and strong! With a power packed range of shirts to diner jackets, shorts to trousers, Arjun Khanna presented an adrenaline-filled collection that screamed masculinity.
In a country that is well-stocked with Indian festive options for men but doesn’t really offer a good amount of great casual menswear, Javed Khan and Arjun Khanna on day 3 definitely gave us hope for the future of crazy casual menswear!
