Exclusive: Shahid Kapoor Speaks About His Looks in His Upcoming Films!

Shahid Kapoor

After a gap of 5 years, Shahid Kapoor recently walked the ramp once again for designer Kunal Rawal, who is in fact a close buddy of the actor. Shahid returned to Mumbai (from Cape Town, where he was shooting for Phata Poster Nikla Hero) just in time to take to the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week, and we made sure to grab him for a quick chat afterwards. He tells us why he agreed to walk for Kunal, how he felt while doing so (you gotta see him blush when we ask!) and what the looks in his upcoming film are like. Check it out!

If you can’t watch the video, there’s a transcript of the conversation below!

Shahid Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Kunal Rawal

Team MissMalini (Team MM): What made you agree to walk for Kunal?

Shahid Kapoor (SK):  It’s Kunal, you know. He’s been doing my clothes for almost three years now and we’re very good friends. I really, really like what he’s done with especially stuff in the movies that we’ve worked on together. I think he has a very original style, he’s very different, yet he knows how to cater to the mainstream. He’s bringing in a lot of fresh stuff which is unexpected and different, and I think somewhere the kind of clothes that he makes represents the way that I feel about myself. So in every possible way I’m very happy to be working with him, and I’m so happy that I could make it… I was out of the country, but I managed to make it and I’m really happy about that.

Team MM: How did it feel, walking the ramp after so many years?

SK: *blushes* I was very shy. Honestly, I thought I’ll be all good but when I… I didn’t have time, I just flew from South Africa and I didn’t actually have time to even do a technical rehearsal. They just told me when I have to enter and exit; I didn’t even have time to try my stuff. So I just went out there and I had a lot of people who were friends there, so I was happy to see them sitting there, and the crowd was very, very nice. They responded well, so I had fun!

Team MM: Kunal’s styling you for your upcoming films; can you tell us about your looks?

SK: Both the films have very distinct looks. The kind of stuff I’m wearing now is closer to what I’m wearing in Rambo Rajkumar; it’s a very grungy look. I’m playing a hard character, but it’s also a fun film so there’s a lot of colour in the film as well. Phata Poster also has some very interesting stuff, it’s a slightly realistic character, simple character. So in the songs we’re having a lot of fun with what we’re wearing, but in the film the look is very basic. But that’s what’s good about Kunal, he never tries to do anything that’s out of character. That’s what I always believe in; I believe that every film has a space and everybody who’s a part of that film needs to understand that space and perform within the requirements. Kunal manages to find something new within those requirements, so I think both of them are going to be interesting and different at the same time.
