Manish Malhotra did what he does best by “Celebrating 100 years of India Cinema” at Lakmé Fashion Week. His clothes were inspired by three epic eras of Bollywood cinema from 1913 to 2013. And everyone erupted in applause as Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, Priyanka Chopra, Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan all took to the ramp to support Manish.
Priyanka Chopra spoke beautifully I thought, and man can she rock a sari!
His front row was no less enigmatic! Comprising of Christian Louboutin, Melita, Bhanu Athaiya, Hema Malini, Asha Bhosle, Kajol, Karishma Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Esha Gupta, Poorna Jagannathan, Sheetal Mafatlal, Queenie Singh and Krishka Lulla!

Psst! Kajol and Karisma Kapoor did an impromptu jaunt down the runway as well, more pix and video coming up soon!
The clothes of course were magical, glorious b&w ensembles represented the 1950s, while a burst of colour in anarkalis and fitted salwars mirrored the 1960s, polka dots the 1970s and flower power the 1980’s. He then went ‘disco bling’ for the late 80s and into his own trademark reinventions for the 90s all in summer hues like yellow and green in chiffons, georgette, silks and net with floral and psychedelic prints. Just stunning!
Manish said, “I have grown up watching Indian Cinema. My journey as a costume designer to movies for 23 years has been an emotional experience. I have loved Cinema and Cinema has loved me back. It has made me what I am today. When I got this meaningful opportunity to celebrate 100 years of cinema, I had to embrace this milestone and create a memorable collection reflecting my equal love for cinema & fashion.”
