‘To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all’
– Oscar Wilde.
Great design; light, fragrant, alive food; an open expanse of Interior excellence – these are some of my choice drivers. I find life is more and more about experiences, than possessions. And this evening of celebration with these ingredients infused within it made it all the more memorable.
When I had agreed to ambassador this Italian Casa, in the heart of Mumbai’s design district, little had I imagined that it would be talked about days after its opening night. ICASA is indeed a Luxurious space , and the Zen Cafe above makes it all the more special.
As their Luxury Consultant I hosted that special evening along with entrepreneur Abha Gupta who’s brainchild this is, and Priyanka Gupta, the young sparky partner. I was drawn to the space because as a Designer myself , I see this as a space where the city of Mumbai has got itself a new design Maison where one can unwind and relax as well. I’d call it a space with that quiet sense of style and minimalism. This Maison houses chic sofas from the world’s top Italian design brands including one of my favoured label’s Natuzzi. I feel like throwing off my shoes and letting go of the city angst, and lounging with a book right here! The experience of shopping at the store is therapeutic with the choice and color and high ceilings. There is something for every taste and the large roomy space gives me a sense of expanse and luxury.
‘It is better to be beautiful than to be good, but it is better to be good than to be ugly’
– Oscar Wilde.
All evening Mumbai’s most beautiful and fabulous people thronged the Maixon and enjoyed the cutting edge design and celebrated with panache. Sashaying down the red carpet and looking every bit Diva were Sagrika Ghadge, Vidya Malvade, Sudeepa Singh, Namrata Shroff , Indu Shahani, Nishika Lulla, Nadia & Meera Chauhan, Suchitra Krishnamurti, Zarine Khan, Kiran Sippy, Penaaz Mesani, Parveen Dusanj, Orna Sagiv Isreal Consul General, Rashmi Uday Singh, Neha Hinge, Mrunalini Deshmukh, Lally Dhawan, Meena Raheja, Anjana Sukhani, Pooja Hegde, Seema Mehrotra, Kunika Sadanand Lal, Sabeera Merchant, Sharon Prabhakar, Uma Da Cunha, Sangeeta Harrinder Singh, Laveena Hansraj, Mehaka Mirpuri, Deepshikha, Poonam Dhillon, Ashiana Lilawati Mehta, Rishma Pai, Tarana Khubchandani, Kintu Bajaj, Asha Patel, Kiran Datwani.
The men enjoyed the single malts and champagne and caught up, among whom were Dalip Tahil, Niranjan Hiranandani, Traffic Commissioner Brijesh Singh, Pradeep Hirani, Actor Tanuj Virvani & his father Anil Virvani, Asif Bamla, Zulfikar Majid Memon, Dr Mukesh Batra, Jaideep Mehrotra, Sunil Padwal, Arzhan Khambatta, Sudershan Shetty, Anil Chopra, Vikram Raizada, Gerson Da Cunha, Prahlad Kakkar, Harrinder Singh, Chetan Hansraj, Parvez Damania, Vithal & Vishaal Kamat, Mehaka, Nikki Lilawati Mehta, Rishi Pai, Prakash Khubchandani, Vikas Bhalla, Amit Patel and Sunil Datwani.
Guests came in on the dot of six, and enjoyed the lime, aqua, aubergine, fuscia, teal cocktails that nearly echoed the jewel colours of the sofa. My friends actually sat on the ottoman, couches, lazy boy’s and looked like they were too comfortable to get up! It is indeed rare to see people look like they are having a good time and have nowhere to ‘rush to’, and actually just have a good time for the sake of a good time. Enjoying the designer outlay. I overheard friends exclaiming with delight that they could shop here than rushing out to Milan to shop for their interior spaces.
