Sitting quietly and unassumingly in a secluded corner at the Lakme Fashion Week party which was held at Tote last night was the legendary footwear designer, Christian Louboutin. His boutique had just opened in Mumbai the day before and he seemed pretty relaxed with a coterie of friends around him.
Frankly, no one knew when he arrived. Unlike some of those flashy designers out there, Loubotin preferred to be discrete and not draw attention to himself. In fact, if Srishti Kumar of IMG had not told me he was in the house, we probably would not have known.
When we were introduced to him, he told us how happy he is to have a big new store in Mumbai. “It was wonderful meeting Mr. Bachchan, Karan Johar and all the guests who dropped by for the opening. Such amazing people,” he told us in his lovely French accent.
Christian Louboutin stayed on till the very end of the party and patiently posed with all the self-confessed “fan-girls” who wanted a picture with him. The fact that many of them came away giggling and blushing is testament to the fact that Louboutin is a clear favourite among Mumbai’s well-heeled.
