“Come away with me in the night
Come away with me
And I will write you a song”
I discovered Norah Jones many years ago and fell in love with her lyrics just as much as her melody, which is why I asked you for your favorites in our FREE VIP upgrade contest 🙂 Bangalore tickets are still up for grabs by the way! Here’s a peak at my Top 10 Norah Jones songs, sing-a-long why don’t you.
Jones was just 21 when she was first recorded, but she appealed to the older crowd because of her sound and her father. Her dad as you know is Ravi Shankar, also famous for teaching George Harrison how to play the sitar. Most of the MTV generation had no idea who he was, but the public radio audience did.
Come Away With Me
Come away with me on a bus
Come away where they can’t tempt us
With their lies
Come away with me and we’ll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I’ll never stop loving you
Don’t Know Why
When I saw the break of day
I wished that I could fly away
Instead of kneeling in the sand
Catching teardrops in my hand
Black
Until you travel to that place you can’t come back
Where the last pain is gone and all that’s left is black
Cold Cold Heart
A memory from your lonesome past
Keeps us so far apart
Why can’t I free your doubtful mind
And melt your cold cold heart
There was a time when I believed
That you belonged to me
But now I know your heart is shackled
To a memory
Sunrise
Surprise, surprise
Couldn’t find it in your eyes
But I’m sure it’s written all over my face
Surprise, surprise
Never something I could hide
When I see we made it through another day
Chasing Pirates
In your message you said
You were going to bed
But I’m not done with the night
So I stayed up and read
But your words in my head
Got me mixed up so I turned out the light
And I, don’t know how
To slow it down
My mind’s racing
From chasing pirates
Why Can’t He Be You?
He takes me to the places you and I used to go
He tells me over and over that he loves me so
He gives me love that I never got from you
He loves me too, his love is true
Why can’t he be you
Say Goodbye
Bring me back the good old days,
When you let me misbehave.
Always knew, it wouldn’t last,
But if you ask, I’d go again.
Yeah, I’d go again.
Well, it ain’t easy to stay in love
If you can’t tell lies,
So I’ll just have to take a bow
And say goodbye.
Young Blood
Midnight phone calls in the back of a Mustang
Creased white pages torn right from the spine
Kissed my neck with a crooked, cracked fang
You always hoped one day you’d be mine
One Flight Down
One flight down
There’s a song on low
And it’s been there playing all along
Now you know
Now you know
Feeling the Same Way
The sun just slipped its note below my door
And I can’t hide beneath my sheets
I’ve read the words before so now I know
The time has come again for me
And I’m feelin’ the same way all over again
Feelin’ the same way all over again
Singin’ the same lines all over again
No matter how much I pretend
PS. Did you know she sang the Everybody Needs a Best Friend for the movie Ted? 🙂
And one with her half-sister Anoushka Shankar 🙂
