Designer Kunal Rawal is quite the go-to designer among Bollywood boys. His clients include A-list actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan – all of whom he has also styled for various films and ads. He has also designed costumes for Bollywood blockbusters like Desi Boyz, Teri Meri Kahani and Aisha.
This time around, Kunal has designed John Abraham’s look for Shootout At Wadala.
Team MissMalini: Can you please describe the outfit in the sketch.
Kunal Rawal: The sketch is from a look for John in Shootout at Wadala where he plays a dreaded gangster. In this sketch John is wearing a gauzy cotton shirt with denims. The fit of the denims and the chunky Kolhapuri chappals are indicative of the early 1980’s where the movie is set. Its easier to style someone who looks as good as John. In fact we worked hard to make him look more real and not focus on his good looks.
Team MissMalini: What are the range of costumes you have designed in the film?
Kunal Rawal: One will see John in cotton and silk blended shirts in deeper darker tones, kurtas, a couple to suede jackets which were iconic to that era.
I have also styled Anil Kapoor in this film where he plays a cop. One will see cotton self-stripe shirts, solid safari shirts and plain collared t-shirts which were something synonymous with cops in early 1980’s.
Kunal will also be showing his men’s wear at the Lakme Fashion Week on 23rd March, 2013.
