Last night we had the pleasure of tasting Ekayana’s wine and cheese flight at the newly opened Shangri-La Hotel in Lower Parel. From February 15 – 28th, Ekayana (Shangri-La’s wine lounge) will be featuring French wines from the Bordeaux area, with other regions to be showcased in the months to come.
The wines we sampled were carefully selected by resident sommelier Thomas Lefebvre, who recently joined the Shangri-La after spending time in Spain, Australia and France, where he received his certification. His passion for curating wines is apparent in everything from the presentation to the exquisite range of flavors he presents – from crisp, easy drinking whites to complex, bold reds.
All five wines we sampled were of exceptional quality, but our favourites (by a hair) were the Mouton Cadet, Bordeaux Blanc – a light and balanced white perfect for a warm summer day – and the Chateau Malmaison, Moulis en Medoc – a layered, toasty red that keeps you thinking about it long after it’s gone.
Shangri-La’s wine tasting is not your usual night out, and we found it a fun and relaxed way to kick-off the weekend. Given the 5 star environment and quality of wines, the price tag is a little steep at Rs. 3000 per head. However, you are guaranteed to come away with more than a few glasses of great wine. And here’s an added bonus: soon tasters looking for continued action will be just a short elevator ride away from three full floors of food, drink and entertainment when Shangri-La’s complete F&B options kick in (including a continental restaurant helmed by Lefebvre’s brother). Now there’s something worth raising a toast to 😉
