The Mirchi Music Awards will be held on the 7th of February with the biggest names in the industry coming out to celebrate the best music of 2012. The Grand Jury met recently to shortlist the nominees in the various categories, and we got invited to watch them at work and have a chat with a few members on the panel! We caught up with Aadesh Shrivastav, Talat Aziz, Sooraj Barjatya and Anu Malik, and we brought back all the details for you!
Each category had a total of 15 options, which were previously chosen by the screening jury. The Grand Jury met that day to whittle this number down to 5 per category. Once that was done, an electronic voting took place to determine the winners of the categories – Talat Aziz, who took us through the nominations process, said that even they weren’t aware of the winners once picked.
Aadesh Shrivastav told us his favourite track of the year – Abhi Mujh Main Kahin – and said he was keeping his fingers crossed for composers Ajay-Atul, as he thought they’d done a great job. Sooraj Barjatya said that while albums like Cocktail, Barfi and Jannat 2 were popular, they were also acknowledging slightly offbeat ones like Gangs of Wasseypur and Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurrana – it’s this variety that makes the Mirchi Music Awards stand out, he says. And, of course, we had to ask Sooraj about his upcoming film with Salman. So if you’re dying to know: he says that he’s looking forward to it but it’ll still be another year till it kicks off, since he’s not ready yet and Salman is busy.
Then we caught up with the awesome Anu Malik, who spoke about what he liked best about this jury meet – according to him, it’s not just about deciding who is worthy of an award, but also why they’re worthy of it. The animated discussions between some of the most creative people in the industry is what makes the jury meet that much better.
And remember the post his daughter Anmol did on our blog for his birthday? We asked him about that and he said he was super touched. He even sent out a special thank you to her, and it’s really so adorable! Make sure you catch it in the video. 🙂
