Calling all fashionistas you simply have to watch this docu-movie! If you thought The Devil Wears Prada was fascinating just wait till you see the real-life version! Anna Wintour, the legendary editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine for twenty years, is the most powerful and polarizing figure in fashion. This is a month in her life as she puts together The September Issue. Hidden behind her trademark bob and sunglasses, she has never allowed anyone to scrutinize the inner workings of her magazine. Until now.
The 2007 issue was and remains the biggest ever, weighing almost two kilos, selling thirteen million copies, and impacting the $300-billion global fashion industry more than any other single publication. Filmmaker R.J. Cutlers takes us behind the scenes at Fashion Week, to Europe, on shoots and reshoots, and into closed-door staff meetings, bearing witness to an arduous, entertaining, and sometimes emotionally demanding process!
At the eye of this annual fashion hurricane is the two-decade relationship between Wintour and Grace Coddington, incomparable Creative Director and fashion genius. They are perfectly matched for the age-old conflict between creator and curator.
Did you know?
Lauren Weisberger, a former Wintour assistant who left Vogue for Departures along with Richard Story, wrote The Devil Wears Prada after a writing workshop he suggested she take. It was eagerly anticipated for its supposed insider portrait of Wintour prior to its publication. Wintour told The New York Times, “I always enjoy a great piece of fiction. I haven’t decided whether I am going to read it or not.” Wintour herself makes a cameo appearance near the end of the book, where it is said she and Miranda dislike each other. In the novel, Miranda has many similarities to Wintour—among them, she is British, has two children, and is described as a major contributor to the Met.
This is a fashion peeps must watch! xoxo
