Team MissMalini recently scored a virtual chat with Sachiin Joshi, actor/producer of the forthcoming movie Mumbai Mirror. We asked him about the film, the scoop on the Mallika Sherawat controversy, and his marriage to actress Urvashi Sharma. Read on for all the deets!
Hi Sachiin, thanks so much for talking to us! Tell us more about Mumbai Mirror; what should we look out for?
Well there s lot that you can expect… but the USP would be its interesting, fast-paced screenplay. Also, you get to see the real Mumbai… the nexus between most famous dance bars and cops… the real dark side of Mumbai. Plus there are some great songs, and especially performances.
Considering you’re a businessman and successful entrepreneur, what is it that attracted you to films?
Well more than any role I play in life, I am more passionate towards whatever I do… the first time I worked in any film was at the age of 8, for a documentary film for the students of Film and TV Institute in Pune. I’ve had an interest in films since then. Getting to live a life of a character, seeing unique places and doing creative things is what attracts me to films.
You’re an actor as well as a producer – which role do you enjoy most?
I guess an actor, for sure.
Why did you initially approach Mallika Sherawat for the role in Mumbai Mirror?
Well she has a certain kind of image, which I felt wud go with the character of an dance bar queen…
You said that Mallika Sherawat behaved unprofessionally, and hence she was dropped from the film. Can you tell us exactly what happened?
Well I said she s unprofessional because just a week before the movie had to start shooting, she said she wouldn’t be able to shoot… this was after she gave confirmation. She gave wage reasons for backing out. There are loads of aspects involved in a film, a lot of actors and money are involved in shooting, not to mention dates. She didn’t bother to consider any of those, even after taking advances for the film.
In fact, we were wondering how Mallika became so well known in the US with Twitter calling her the biggest star in Bollywood?!
Well I don’t know about that… but I guess there are brilliant actors in Bollywood, like Irrfan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan who are much bigger is the world…
Your advice to Mallika?
To deliver as committed.
Who are your favorite Bollywood on screen couples?
Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol; Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.
Tell us about Urvashi! How did you find the girl of your real-life dreams?
I guess it was destiny… so things happen by themselves.
Your wedding was nothing short of a Bollywood extravaganza! What was your favorite memory from the festivities? Which Bollywood stars are you closest to who attended?
Well the fact that the wedding happened in Kashmir would be memorable in itself. Loads of my friends attended; Shah Rukh unfortunately could not attend as he was shooting in London. Most of the rest were there.
Your advice to beginners in Bollywood…
Where there is a will there s a way… keep trying. I am sure if you are destined, you will make it.
What’s this about you playing RR Patil? Tell us more!
Well RR Patil Sahab has been our deputy chief minister and home minister for the state of Maharashtra. He has contributed a lot in the well being by shutting down dance bars directly, and has stopped loads of terrorism and drugs and prostitution through it. I am essaying a character of a cop, who is doing the same in Mumbai Mirror in his own way…
Please describe the following actors in your own words! SRK, Salman, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Deepika, Anushka Sharma, Ranbir Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra.
SRK is an institution. Salman the most stylish. Aamir, brilliant performer. Katrina, sweet and sexy. Deepika is uniquely charming. Anushka, a good actress. Ranbir – born actor/superstar. Akshay, over the top. Priyanka, hard working and a brilliant performer.
One Bollywood actress you would love to work with?
I guess all of them… but would like to start of with Priyanka.
