It takes an animal lover like Otara Del Gunewardene (owner of the famous Odel stores in Sri Lanka) to dedicate an entire fashion line to her favourite pet dog, Niko.
“He’s the original slum-dog millionaire because I actually picked him off the streets of Colombo and now he lives a comfortable life with me (and two other adopted street dogs),” says Otara.
Retailing the line of clothes inspired by Niko under the label, Embark, for the Odel chain of stores, the new and funky Niko Goes To Bollywood collection is be a great platform for his recognition as an international icon. They believe that the message to be fashionable and yet passionate (or pashionable, as they call it) can be further spread with an audience who can relate to the cause.
By launching their “pashionable” apparel, Odel hopes to also help the struggle of abandoned street dogs needing loving homes to help them reach their star potential.
The proceeds generated from sales of the Embark label primarily centers around saving homeless dogs and providing them with a better quality of life.
Odel has incorporated its inspiration for Niko Goes To Bollywood from both, the bustling cosmopolitan cities of India and the appeal of Bollywood’s X-Factor. Their inspiration for this collection has visually been translated into the chosen color pallet. Elements of India have been reflected in their initial mood board which has continued throughout the creative design process.
Odel has enlivened Embark’s signature taglines and infamous slogans with a twist directed towards their new Bollywood collection. The price of this collection ranges between INR 800 to INR 1100. Distinctive and unique, they have taken specific elements of India by adding signature Embark design graphics to create a fun fusion that makes up the Niko Goes To Bollywood collection.
