The Plan India ArtistAloud.com concert to create awareness for the International Day Of The Girl Child was held in Mumbai on the 11th of October. Six bands played, including mine. They were Indian Ocean, Indus Creed, Parikrama, Papon and Euphoria. It was ironic that I was the only female artiste and lead singer of the band in the line up. And that is actually a fair representation of the way stats go in the real world, viz opportunities for both genders!
The evening of the concert seemed doomed with the dark clouds likely to wash away the venue. During the sound check we felt a drizzle and had our fingers crossed. Fortunately the rain gods decided to be kind and all six bands played out their 30-40 minutes slots comfortably.
It was a fabulous turnout and more so for Mumbai which is a city that seems to have lost the ‘habit’ of attending live music events thanks to all the restrictions! There were more than 2000 + people in the crowd, supporting the cause and cheering for their favourite indie bands. I was pleasantly surprised and blown away by the huge cheer that followed my introduction and the general upbeat mood in the crowd.
For my performance, I wore Payal Khandwala’s Sadhu meets Samurai line. I feel the sync of her concept with my music and outlook. I also wore the Kirpaan neck-piece from Eina Ahluwalia’s Domestic Violence collection, which I believe was really apt for the occasion.
