Meiyang Chang won many hearts (mine included) when he appeared on singing reality show Indian Idol, after pushing aside his dentist’s degree to follow his dreams. He was my favourite contestant on the show that year – I still remember my heart breaking when he was eliminated – but what I hadn‘t realized was just how much more we still had to expect from him. To celebrate this multi-talented – and very sweet – guy’s birthday, I’m sharing with you my favourite Meiyang Chang moments!

Indian Idol

See how smitten Alisha Chinai is? Who can blame her, really? His lovely voice coupled with that adorable smile (you know his background as a dentist has something to do with it) is really quite the combination. 😉

Badmaash Company

Badmaash Company brought in a different kind of Meiyang Chang – piercings, edgy clothing, bad-boy haircut. But more than that, it showed us that along with singing, he also had the acting bug in him!

Jhalak Dikhla Jaa

I remember during Badmaash Company promotions, Meiyang mentioned that the gang had played a prank on him by telling him that he had to dance for one of the songs. Meiyang thought he couldn’t dance at all, and spent quite sometime rehearsing, only to be told later that they were joking. That’s why I was quite surprised to see him on Jhalak – based on his words, I expected him to be a really bad dancer, except… he turned out to be good, and even went on to win that season of the show!

All I can say after this is, good thing he didn’t go to become a dentist, eh? 🙂 Here’s wishing Meiyang Chang a very, very happy birthday, and a fabulous year ahead!
