As stated in the title of this blog, “The scent of a woman” is part of her Image and in a way becomes her identity. Even after she has left the room, her scent lingers therein and in the memory of those affected by it.
There are various groups that fragrances can be classified into and once we have identified the category that we like most, it becomes easier to choose the right fragrance and make it part of our identity.
Categories such as fruity, floral, fougère, ozonic, chypre, green, citrus, aldehydic, gourmand and few more. Let’s not get too technical and work the other way round – lets discuss the right fragrances for the right occasions or time of the day
1) Casual – Day – Fun
This category would appeal to the teen-queens, or anyone in a fun casual setting. Fruity and fruity-florals would be perfect for this mood. Ideal occasions would be the movies, a date and to wear to college.
Some of the very popular ones would be Light Blue by D&G, Be Delicious by DKNY, Fantasy by Britney, Blue by Ralph Lauren, Miss Dior Cherie by Christian Dior, Glow by JLO.
2) The Mature Woman
This category would be for the ladies- the mature woman as suggested and could be worn at work, through the day for lunches, brunches, meetings et al.
The notes would be mild florals, ozonic (fresh and aquatic).
A lot of Classics would fall in this category such as Anais Anais by Cacharel, Chanel No 5 by Chanel, Beautiful and Pleasures by Estee Lauder, J’Adore by Christian Dior. The ozonic choices (fresh & watery) would be Cool Water by Davidoff, Acqua Di Gio by Armani, Escape by Calvin Klein, L’eau Dissey by Issey Miyake.
3) Heavy and Sensuous for the evening
While it’s best to opt for lighter, milder fragrances during the day, in the evenings you may choose to go heavier and more glam with the notes (oriental, fougere, woody, musk) Could be for your dinners, parties, clubs, weddings and the works.
Options could be Opium by YSL, Gucci by Gucci, Shalimar by Guerlian, Poison by Christian Dior, Angel by Thierry Mugler, Romance by Ralph Lauren, Obsession by Calvin Klein, Euphoria by Calvin Klein.
Now that we know what perfume to wear when, lets talk a bit about how to wear them.
– Perfume (EDT or EDP) is to be worn on your skin and not on clothes or jewellery. Preferably wear it after a shower so the skin absorbs more.
– Less is more. While it is important to smell wonderful all the time, it is also considered very bad taste if a woman’s presence is overpowered by her smell. Remember it is “part” of your overall image.
– Spray the fragrance on your pulse points i.e. behind the earlobes, at the wrists, behind the knees, on the neck.
– Always remember to wear a deodorant even while wearing perfume as the use of each is mutually exclusive of the other.
Lastly, let me leave you with some classic Marilyn Monroe…..
