Shah Rukh Khan has completed nine years of being a brand ambassador for TAG Heuer, so to celebrate – and announce his ongoing affiliation with the brand – a press conference was recently hosted where they presented SRK with a specially made watch and a momento. Shah Rukh spoke at length about his relationship with the brand, but was later accused by the media that he’s not been interacting with them recently and has not done Q&A sessions. The journo in question demanded to know why he’d been avoiding speaking to the meda… here’s what Shah Rukh replied.
According to SRK, it wasn’t a conscious decision – and certainly isn’t personal – he just does what he’s asked to at the events, and the past few events have not included media Q&A sessions. In fact, at this particular event as well, the organizers had not allotted time for Q&A. However, since the media started asking for one, SRK quietly convinced the team to let him take a few questions, and that’s when he did.
Of course, as soon as he explained that he wasn’t avoiding the media, someone asked him a question about Salman Khan. SRK’s response? “And then you guys ask why I don’t take questions…” That was the end of that question, but someone brought up Sallu later again by asking what SRK thought of the chemistry between Katrina Kaif and Salman in Ek Tha Tiger. Shah Rukh launched into a tirade about how he doesn’t understand the term “chemistry” and how he and Kajol were always confused when people told them they had great chemistry.
At the same time, he also spoke of his upcoming Yash Raj Films untitled flick. SRK claims that he loved working with Anushka and Katrina, because he believes he gets to learn a lot from the newer generation of actors, especially in the way they express themselves. But for those of you waiting for any sort of promo, SRK’s not the one to ask – he said that’s in the producers hands so you’d have to call YRF to get the answer (but he also warns that their reply will be “no comment”).
As always, the topic of his kids came up, and once more SRK spoke at length about them. He said he’s grown to love them as friends and hope they’ll learn a lot from their own experience – and hopefully turn out to be better organizers/time managers than he is. It’s always heartening to see him talk about his kids!
Since Atul Kasbekar is the guy behind the photoshoots, so we got to hear a few words from him also:
Psst, fun fact: he said a lot goes into picking the right TAG Heuer watches for his films, they don’t just pull one at random (unless it’s a light film and he’s an urban character who can afford such a watch – then he wears the one he likes). For example, in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, the team spent months sourcing the right watch – a very old one that could have been handed down to his character by someone in the family. Interesting to know how much goes into just a few seconds’ shot!
