I am breathing a sigh of relief as I type this, because the fate of the third Munnabhai film was very much up in the air. Now however, director Rajkumar Hirani has gone on record to clarify that he is making one more film in the Munnabhai franchise – here’s what he said!
Raju Hirani told Mirror:
“I was not happy with the second half of the script. I was suffering a writer’s block, you may say. But once the script of P.K. was out of the way, I was inspired enough to get back to Munnabhai. I will make one more film with these guys. After that someone can take over.“
The film will see Raju return in the director’s seat, and will feature Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi‘s antics once again. I’m bouncing-in-my-seat excited for this, but there will still unfortunately be a wait. This film will only begin once P.K. is done with, which is Christmas of 2013 – so we’re looking at a 2014 release date here if all goes well.
Either way, it’s more than we had before – at one point we had the teaser of Munnabhai Chale America, but when My Name Is Khan released, the makers thought it was too similar to that script and the idea was canned. Since then, there’s been no solid news about the film – until now!
