I used to love Westerns as a kid. Slit-eyed Clint Eastwood making short work of the bad guys really made my day—if you catch my drift. I also loved classic cartoons where the violence was loud, the action was frantic, and the soundtrack was filled with jokey sounds.
I wanted to capture some of that energy and attitude in Six-Gun Sundae – while also telling a simple story. After some thought, a lot of rejected sketches and several weeks of procrastination, I settled upon the idea of two street kids enjoying their ice cream cones until they come face-to-face with each other.
A cartoon is nothing without music and for this I wanted the sort of faux-jazz soundtrack that made a lot of the classic cartoons so memorably funny. So I turned to my frequent collaborator Sonaluna, handed her the brief and sat back and waited for magic to happen. I think the cool, bouncy track she produced for the film really brings the story together very nicely.
So there you have it, all the words that are fit to be written about a short film called Six-Gun Sundae on which I handled character design, writing, animation, and editing. It was a fun process and we are proud of how the film turned out.
Thanks for watching. I hope you like it.
