We’re obsessed with this Chinta Ta Ta song here in the office, which is a tribute to how wildly popular it got – popular enough that the owners of the rights to the original song sat up and decided hey wanted their share of the pie. Turns out that while Sanjay Leela Bhansali bought the rights of Vikramakudo, the film on which Rowdy Rathore is based, he didn’t realize that the Chinta Ta Ta rights were with someone else!
The song had been adapted by Sajid Wajid for Rowdy Rathore, but the original rights of the song lie with Hyderabad-based Aditya Music. So, they of course sent Bhansali a legal notice – which was settled out-of-court since Bhansali apparently decided a court battle wasn’t worth it. He therefore shelled out 50 lakhs in damages, and the matter has now been settled cooperatively.
