Come June and the arrival of the monsoons usually fills me with dread. Four months of icky wet gloomy weather. It’s a nightmare to dress fashionably during this season. Luckily for us, rain gear has taken great strides in becoming trendy. So before rains are upon us full-force I decided to head to Hill Road to find some stylish rain-gear for my arsenal!
First up were shoes. The only material to wear on your feet is rubber as it’s much more comfortable than plastic. Heading to La Judi opposite Globus, which is quite the mecca for export-surplus shoes. The shop has a whole section dedicated to rain shoes. From thong sandals to ballet flats and wedge heels! Yes, you read that right. Wedge heels, perhaps to keep those manicured feet away from puddles?
My pick were the really cute pink thong sandals (that too at a bargain for 200rs). Also spotted for all you Angry Bird fans out there are pig and bird slippers. How funky is that?
If you like making a bold statement when entering a room take your pick from these colourful gumboots. Tuck your jeans or leggings into them and get set to wade! This psychedelic pair certainly got my attention and that’s probably going to be my next impulse buy!
Next up was the all important search for the perfect umbrella. We walked down further and stopped at La Bijoux on the main road which had plenty of options to choose from. Whether you prefer a small one that can easily fold into your handbag or larger hand held one there’s one to suit any personality and appeal to the inner-kid in you. Ruffles, glitter, polka dots and ombré shades ruled supreme on the racks. My radar immediately spotted one with heart prints on it, that’s certainly going to to perk up my ensemble. The damage to your pocket? Around 350rs.
Lastly, I went in search of heavy duty rain wear. I headed to the store Roopak near Ferns N Petals that seemed to stock all sorts of windcheaters and raincoats. I have my heart set on this lime-green A-line raincoat that will set me apart from the sea of blacks and navy blues. The coats seem sturdy and durable and certainly battle-ready for the next great downpour. Prices range from 500rs onwards.
So prepare yourself to hit the streets searching for your perfect monsoon accessories! I hope this guide will help you stay stylish for the next few monsoony months!
