I attended a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan tribute at Blue Frog by his nephews (Rizwan Muazim Qawwal) last Sunday night and it was stunning stuff! How anyone can use their voice like that for so long is beyond me. But what really struck me was how everyone in the audience had a smile on their faces just listening to the long adored lyrics of the legendary Nusrat. It was a beautiful thing to experience and I’m so very glad a healthy proportion of the crowd was in fact quite young, which bodes well for the future of Qawwali 🙂
PS. Enthu Uncle behind me was super distracting btw, he sang every song, whistled till my ear drums burst and almost fell over saying wha! wah! *lol*
I loved so many of they shers (lyrics) I just wish they had sung my all time fave Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan creation, remember this one from Bend it Like Bekham? xoxo
