Ah, Day 7 of Cannes Film Festival! Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly, starring Brad Pitt and Ray Liotta, premiered, and P.Diddy hosted a party in a yacht. Sounds promising fashion-wise, no? Click, click this way!
My best dressed of the day was… Diane Kruger, once again! C’mon, do you think anyone stood a chance after this breathtaking custom Nina Ricci number she pulled out of the hat? The white silk and lace column gown delicately embellished with feathers and corsage was oh-so-romantic. The pop of lavender on the shoulder via the corsage elevated the gown to ethereal heights. Loosely styled 40s style hair, nude makeup, a silver embellished Judith Leiber clutch and a diamond bracelet completed her immaculate look. Like a goddess, yet again. I’d go so far as to say that Diane’s the… BEST DRESSED WOMAN IN THE WORLD!!! Sorry, Vicky B.
Giving her competition in the best dressed stakes was her Lanvin-clad beau Joshua Jackson. Does he not scrub up well? The jacket fits him like a second skin, the trouser length (I’m ever so picky on this!!) is just right, the shoes, the black buttons on the shirt, the bow tied the way it’s meant to be, and the corsage… *swoon* Okay, yet again he wore it on the wrong lapel, but I’m sure he has good reasons for it so I’ll overlook the faux-pas. Near-perfection in execution! You’ll understand why I’m lauding Josh so much once you check out what Brad Pitt wore to the same event.
Red carpet options for men are so limited and straightforward, YET, 90% of the time they get it wrong ‒ with Brad Pitt being the case in point. His Balenciaga tuxedo was terrible! The jacket was ill-fitting, the shirt was so messy and don’t get me started on the trousers! Aaaarrgghh. He just looks soooo *not* put-together.
Erm, he didn’t fare well in the daytime either, at the photocall of the film. I’ve nothing bad to say about the bespoke Gucci notch lapel two-button khaki Marseille suit; in fact, I love it. But it’s what he teamed the suit with that I… Aaaarrrgghh. Plunging v-neck T-shirt, white belt, white shoes. Brad, are you a girl, why so matchy-matchy? Looks like he over thought on his daytime wear and just randomly picked the evening ensemble. And c’mon Brad, just cut that hair already!
The Missoni dress Nicky Hilton wore to P.Diddy’s bash was so cute! Awww… She looked lovely.
Kim Kardashian was there too at the yacht, and her black lace cropped top-dress from Emilio Pucci’s S/S’12 was just unsightly!
Cristano Ronaldo’s lady Irina Shayk was escorted down the red carpet of Killing Them Softly by de GRISOGONO’s president & executive director Fawaz Gruosi ‒ and Iri was doing her thing as always! It was a Roberto Cavalli red off-the-shoulder gown with embellishments on the bust and waist and a thigh-high split and satin champagne peep-toe heels for her. And she was dripping with de GRISOGONO diamonds. Okay, I found the gown tack-tastic and cheap-looking, just like all of
poor man’s Versace’s
Roberto Cavalli’s creations, but Iri was making it trashier by doing a Angie’s right leg.
British glamour model and actress (oh Lord!) Kelly Brook opted for a sparkler of a gown for the premiere, and I was pleasantly surprised by the choice. The Blonds’ S/S’12 gown had a plunging neckline with all over embellishments of multi-coloured crystals. It’s a fun number, no? Kelly could’ve gone for a better fit, though.
Li Bingbing wore a custom Gucci number which I found rather intriguing. The strapless, empire waist gown featured black silk tulle over nude georgette, and dark metallic green and black crystal leaf motif embroideries. Once again she was in head-to-toe Gucci, with black satin platform heels, embroidered black satin clutch, 18K pink gold horsebit earrings with onyx, and 18K pink gold horsebit cocktail ring with black corundum and black diamonds finishing off her look.
Cassie Ventura, too, went for a Roberto Cavalli gown to the premiere of Killing Them Softly. The black beaded gown had chiffon inserts which gave way to a nice little train. I loved the contrast of green against the black provided by the dangling emerald and diamond earrings from Chopard.
Looks like it was a Roberto Cavalli red carpet as model Karolina Kurkova went for one of his gowns too. It was a sparkly number from his A/W’12: a black halter-neck gown held together with a leather strap and some serious embellishments of black paillettes. A pewter clutch, diamond cuff and drop earrings completed her look. Do I like the gown? Erm, it didn’t leave me with a gaping mouth.
Michelle Rodriguez’s plunging V-neck white chiffon gown with lace inserts was too bridal-y for a film premiere. But her Chopard jewels? Oh yes, they belonged at the red carpet!
Bella Heathcote wore a Chanel Autumn 2009 Couture gown to the Killing Them Softly after party. The black dress with a layered skirt and a mullet hemline that trails off to a train and some light embellishments on the shoulder was just so uninspiring. She could’ve done up her hair to shed some focus on the embellishments on the shoulder, but it’s still an unflattering gown. She teamed the dress with Nicholas Kirkwood black satin rose pumps and Chanel Fine Jewelry.
