Suddenly the 80’s are back to rule the fashion world, after neon, the other trend that has been rocking the fashion world are Peplums!

What are Peplums and why are they fashion’s newest obsession?

Peplum is a short over-skirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, skirts or dresses. They’ve been around since the 20s, came back in the 80’s and well, are back again! Peplums seen on the ramp in Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 have taken the fashion world by storm with their sexy and feminine appeal.

I guess Peplums are so sexy because they appeal to everyone and not just size 0 – 2. They tend to work on any body type even if you are on the plumper side. (So amazing when you need to hide a tummy!) Peplums look hot on a skirt, dress and can be even done for a formal look with pants or a narrow pencil skirt.

Designers are going crazy integrating this style into their fashion lines, from Jason Wu to Michael Angel.

Even red carpets are witnessing stars sporting this trend and what everyone assumed would just be catwalk designer-wear turned out to be a high street hit too! Although this trend is yet to hit India in a big way, I wish we could see more of it in our stores and on our catwalks.
