My friend Tina is a girl of many talents, my favorite being that she is almost always brimming with happiness – and a cheeky (but still good-natured) observation. Aside from her work as a designer on her own label Estinna she’s busy mastering her domestic domain, these are her adventures, enjoy!

Welcome to a day in the life of a domesticated woman in Mumbai! I wanted to share my funny day-to-day adventures and the fundamentals of running a house; buying groceries, micro managing staff, cooking and all the other things that come with making a house a home. Mostly chaos into hilarity. Grab your brooms and helmets, because this one is going to be one hell of a ride!
Friday Flashback…
Friday morning is all about the remnants of finishing up the touches on re doing the living room. The “couch fitters” as I like to call them, are just in our living room stitching our sofas and the pillows that come with it. Lots of fabric pieces are flying around as the hum of the sewing machine is bouncing off the walls.
The doorbell rings. It’s just ten in the morning. I already have 3 extra people working on my couch, now who can that be? The electrician is standing at the door. Oh yes, the carpenter, I nearly forgot about him. Our chandeliers just arrived yesterday and they needed to be fitted.
Come in, come in, I say, as we make our way through the array of people sitting around, I wonder, why is it even in the calmest of days, chaos occurs in the oddest of ways? It’s not like you are actually experiencing chaos, but it’s just that your own home, has so many people in it all at once, that you feel a little chaotic.
The shrill sound of the blackberry sounds off in the background as I was trying to answer phone calls about various things. The people we order our organic vegetables from wanted to know since they didn’t have papaya, did we want pomegranates instead? Now, I am not an expert on fruit, but does a papaya in any shape or form look like a pomegranate to you? As I politely declined the man waiting on the other end of the phone, my phone beeped on call waiting. Ahh, it’s the ever ready telemarketers. I wonder what they want this time. As I answered to again tell the guy on the phone for the hundredth time, that I wasn’t interested in what he had to offer me, even if it was the chance of a lifetime, he still insisted on offering me a double platinum credit card with no interest rates attached and no gimmicks. Ha! If only that were true!
Just then the door bell rings again. A frail looking girl who mustn’t be more than 20 years of age, stands at the door looking at me with her big brown eyes. “Ma’am, I heard you want a maid?” I look at her bewildered, I am sure I have seen her before. Yes, I have, she came to our door about a month ago, saying the same thing. “No, we have a maid, we don’t need one.” She then looks a little skeptical and meekly says “Ok, that’s ok” I then have to explain to her that she has been here before saying the same thing and she says, Oh, she didn’t realize it was the same house. How strange people are.
Friday went by in a blur, as the “couch fitters” finished their work and our chandeliers finally went up. We admired our living room and said “another day finished another task accomplished” just then I heard “Madam, our cable TV has no signal!
